Socio-Political and Economical Situation of Ecuador
In Ecuador, 70% of the population lives in poverty conditions, 40% from them survive in extreme poverty..
- The Housing deficit in Ecuador is 1,430,000 houses.
- 57% of houses do not have Basic Services (potable water, garbage collection, drainage channels)
- 50% of children suffer of undernourishment, 12.5% of them are in Guayas.
- 21.3% of the 2,116,588 people older than 15 years are functionally illiterate, it means, they can not understand what they read.
- 69% of Children under 5 years old, in Ecuador, live in poverty conditions.
- 68.6% of children, who didn’t get a registration in school, did it for poverty reasons.
- 11.1% of children in first grade in 2001 gave up school.
- The unemployment rate in 2004 (first trimester) was 11.1%
- 25% of population, approximately, has emigrated to other countries
- 11.3% of people old enough to work, do not have a job and 42.2% have informal employments.

From the Social Balance made by Hogar de Cristo which was based on a sample of 1250 users who received houses, micro-credits, scholar support and preventive health in the year 2003-2004, we got the following results:
