Hogar de Cristo is inspired by the work that Father Alberto Hurtado, SJ started 50 years ago when he founded Hogar de Cristo in Chile. It was promoted in Ecuador by Father Josse Van Der Rest, SJ., who is the president of SELAVIP (Latin American and Asian Housing Service), and with the work of Father Francisco García, SJ well known as “Tío Paco”, it was possible to fabricate the first bamboo houses in Ecuador. The beneficiaries were the poorest families of the slums of Guayaquil.
The fundamentals of the institution are Faith and Social Justice, through the promotion if the Integral Development of Families and Communities. – DIF/DIC.
